SRSP’s Alternate Energy Programme: Powering Progress in Remote Communities

Clean Energy, Big Change: Powering Remote Communities

SRSP tackles energy poverty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by establishing micro-utilities that deliver clean, reliable electricity to homes, clinics, and schools.

For many in remote areas, access to electricity remains a distant dream. This lack of power not only hinders daily life but also limits opportunities for healthcare, education, and economic development.

SRSP’s solution? Sustainable, renewable energy.

We work hand-in-hand with rural communities to build micro-hydropower plants and other renewable energy systems. This empowers residents with clean, reliable electricity, fostering improved health, education, and economic prospects while safeguarding the environment.

Transforming Lives with Clean Power

SRSP’s innovative microhydro projects bring clean, reliable electricity to over 125956 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s mountainous regions. These 355 units generate 30 megawatts of power, promoting economic growth through new businesses, improved healthcare facilities, and extended study hours. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, SRSP protects the environment and empowers communities. Our success has been recognized by leading organizations like ASHDEN (prestigious 2015 award) and GNESD (Energy Access Knowledge Base inclusion).

Beneficiaries

SRSP aligns with the United Nations Sustainability goals.

N

No Poverty All our projects contribute towards ending energy poverty

N

Good Health and Well Being – reduced indoor smoke, access to the internet and medical resources

N

Quality Education – we are lighting up schools and providing internet access and providing access to new resources

N

Gender Equality – many of the children in the schools we are serving are girls and women play a major role in many of our villages/communities

N

Affordable and Clean Energy – its what we do

N

Sustainable growth – our microhydro projects clearly support this

N

Reducing Inequalities – we are providing light and energy to underserved communities

N

Climate Action – we are replacing kerosene, candles, wood, petrol

COMMUNITY OWNED AND OPERATED MICRO-UTILITIES

Together with our partners we build mini-grids that deliver quality, consistent energy to homes, schools, and clinics. These systems provide sufficient power for large appliances like washing machines, power tools, and food mills, providing a real springboard for economic opportunity.

SRSP Impact: Lighting Up Lives in Rural Communities

Powering Progress: How Light Transformed Life in Serai

Life in Serai no longer comes to a complete stand still at dusk. Streets and shops remain open during the evening as the people work to complete their chores, and students stay up to complete their school work. The poverty stricken community no longer spends huge amounts on buying kerosene, fuel wood or gas cylinders

Shining a Light on Sustainability: Village Chaketal Benefits from 50 KW Micro Hydro Power

“We used to lit our houses in night by using the fire of wood of pine trees and the that was the only affordable source of light we had as the kerosene oil was too expensive and we cannot afford it to use for light” said Rahmanuddin.
