Olive Oil Revolution: Dir Lower’s New Processing Plant is Pressing Forward

A boost for local olive growers and the Malakand economy.

The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) is making waves in the olive oil industry with the installation of an advanced Olive Oil Processing Plant (OPP) in Temergara, District Dir Lower. Funded by the Italian government through the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), this plant is transforming the lives of local olive growers.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Extra Local Benefits

Before the OPP, olive growers in the Malakand Division had to travel long distances to extract oil from their olives. Now, they can process their harvest locally, ensuring a higher quality product and increased profits. This is a major step forward in promoting sustainable livelihoods and boosting the local economy.

PCSIR Impressed by SRSP’s Initiative

The Director General of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) KP recently visited the OPP with his team. They were highly impressed by the facility and its potential to add value to the olive industry in the region. The Director General commended SRSP’s efforts in promoting olive extraction and value addition.

Collaboration is Key

The success of this project highlights the importance of collaboration between government agencies, international organizations, and local communities. By working together, they are creating opportunities for economic growth and improving the lives of people in the Malakand Division.

Looking Ahead

The OPP in Temergara is a shining example of how innovative solutions can empower local communities and drive sustainable development. With continued support and investment, the future of olive oil production in the Malakand Division looks bright.
