
Sarhad Rural Support Programme and Care International Successfully Complete “WAQAR” Project in Kohat
SRSP in collaboration with Care International Pakistan, has successfully concluded the “WAQAR” project in Kohat district. Funded by the European Union in Pakistan and implemented through UNOPS Pakistan, the project aimed to enhance the living conditions and livelihood opportunities of both the host and Afghan communities in the region.
Key Achievements:
- Empowering Women and Men: The project provided vocational and skills training to 100 women and 50 men, equipping them with valuable skills for the job market. Furthermore, 100 trainees were assisted in securing employment or establishing their own small businesses.
- Supporting Sustainable Livelihoods: 646 women received essential livelihood kits, including poultry, livestock, and kitchen gardening kits, along with comprehensive training on these areas. This initiative aimed to empower women economically and improve household food security.
- Improving WASH Facilities: The project restored and installed 2 water supply schemes and 10 hand pumps in communal and health facilities, benefiting over 28,000 individuals from both the Afghan refugee and host communities.
- Promoting Health and Well-being: Over 4,129 women participated in sessions focused on health and hygiene, breastfeeding, and gender-based violence. These sessions aimed to improve the overall health and well-being of women and their families.
Celebrating Success:
A closing ceremony and toolkit distribution event was held at SRSP’s HRDC to celebrate the project’s achievements. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Country Director of Care International, representatives from UNOPS and the Afghan Commissionerate, the CEO of SRSP, and members of the host and Afghan communities.
Impact:
The “WAQAR” project has made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals in Kohat district. By providing access to skills training, livelihood opportunities, improved WASH facilities, and health education, the project has contributed to the social and economic empowerment of both host and Afghan communities.
