Climate change is a global crisis, but its impacts are felt locally. That’s why it’s so important to empower communities with the knowledge and tools to adapt and protect themselves. In the flood-affected district of Charsadda, SRSP (Sarhad Rural Support Programme) is doing just that.

With support from the GIZ-funded project “Climate Adaptation and Risk Financing,” SRSP recently conducted a series of awareness sessions focused on climate adaptation. These sessions, led by community resource persons (CRPs), reached over 900 men and women in the district.

What did these sessions cover?

The core aim was to educate participants about:

  • The challenges of climate change: Understanding the how and why behind climate change impacts is the first step towards effective action.
  • Mitigation strategies: Participants learned about practical steps they can take to reduce their own contribution to climate change.
  • Climate-friendly actions: From water conservation to sustainable farming practices, the sessions highlighted actions that can help protect the environment and build resilience.

Why is this important?

By engaging directly with communities, SRSP is fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. When people understand the risks of climate change and how to address them, they become active agents of change. This grassroots approach is crucial for building a sustainable future for Charsadda and beyond.
