Vocational skills development plays a crucial role in fostering social integration and driving economic growth. By equipping young people with practical skills and knowledge, they are empowered to become productive members of society. SRSP, is actively engaged in this endeavor, providing various skills trainings to enhance the long-term employability of youth and reduce unemployment rates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan.
Thanks to the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Pakistan, SRSP recently launched three-month vocational training workshops for 71 young individuals. These workshops bring together participants from both Afghan and host communities in the districts of Peshawar, Nowshera, and Haripur. This initiative not only fosters social cohesion but also promotes economic empowerment for all participants.
The workshops focus on three in-demand vocational skills:
- Mobile Repair: With the increasing use of smartphones, mobile repair technicians are in high demand. This training equips participants with the skills to diagnose and repair common mobile phone issues.
- General Electrical Work: This training covers basic electrical principles, wiring techniques, and safety procedures, enabling participants to undertake residential and commercial electrical work.
- Plumbing: Participants learn the fundamentals of plumbing systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair, preparing them for a wide range of plumbing jobs.
By providing these valuable vocational skills, SRSP is investing in the future of these young people. The training not only increases their chances of securing employment or starting their own businesses but also contributes to the overall economic development of the region. This initiative serves as a shining example of how collaboration between organizations and governments can create positive change and empower youth with the tools they need to succeed.
